OnePlus 7 Series Global Project Launch, London Printworks

Barrisol Welch were recently involved in the global product launch of the new OnePlus 7 smartphone at the Printworks in London. Read on to find out the part we played in the launch event.

Project Background

OnePlus Technology (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd. commonly referred as OnePlus, is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer based in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China.

The company was founded by Pete Lau (CEO) and Carl Pei in December 2013 and officially serves 34 countries and regions around the world. They have released numerous phones, among other products.

What The Client Wanted

OnePlus were launching their new smartphone range, the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7 simultaneously in London, New York and Bangalore on May 14th 2019, with the London launch venue being held at The Printworks.

Production Partner Sparq (part of the Savile Group) had an extremely tight schedule to meet from the client, with London being the biggest launch out of all 3 locations. With 650 guest attending as well as 350 invited media in attendance, the launch was broadcast live across the globe on social media platforms.

31 lightboxes were required, with installation 1 day before the launch that would reveal the new OnePlus 7 pro and Oneplus 7 to the world.

From the official order being placed to delivery, Barrisol Welch had just 2 week’s to complete the design, fabrication and installation.

Our Solution – Delivered Successfully In Just 2 Weeks

Never one to shy away from a tight deadline, all design and fabrication took place fully in-house, allowing us to meet the clients tight 2 week time frame.

31 lightboxes were manufactured by us to exact specifications. The 3m x 2m, 180mm depth frames were sprayed to the clients Pantone Colour and sheen. 1120 meters of LED’s were installed and tested, 2 lightboxes with RGB colour, using Barrisol track system + Translucent Mercure 04017 membrane/sheet which has 52% Light transmission, Class 0 (zero) fire rating.

Special thanks to Jean-Marc Scherrer (President of Barrisol) for assistance with the fast delivery of the required Mercure sheets within 24 hours.

Barrisol Welch completed and delivered all 31 lightboxes to site on Sunday 12^th May, which were fully installed by Monday 13^th May, ready for the global launch which took place on 14th May.

The new OnePlus 7 is expected to retail at around £499 and should be available to buy here in the UK in June 2019.

Moberly Sports Centre Swimming Pool Acoustics Installation

Swimming Pool Acoustics Installation

The £28 million redevelopment of Moberly Sports Centre features the first newly built swimming pool in Westminster since the Queen Mother Sports Centre opened in 1981.

The new state-of-the-art leisure facilities include a six-lane, 25m swimming pool with a dedicated learner pool, spa-suana, gym, dance studio and multi-use sports hall.

As a key feature for the swimming pool development, Barrisol Welch installed an acoustic ceiling system to enhance the sound quality within the pool hall whilst also creating a bright and open space.

Acoustic Ceiling System

The project brief and reason for this installation was simple. Our client wanted the performance benefits of a Barrisol Acoustic Ceiling for the large pool hall environment.

Acoustics in swimming pool environments can be a real design challenge, thanks to their size and the noise reverberation from tiled surfaces.

Introducing a Barrisol Stretch Ceiling with acoustic properties, into large acoustically challenging spaces such as a swimming pool, will provide outstanding audible results without having to compromise on the final aesthetics of the space.

Barrisol Installations

We installed the Barrisol Star Track Profile BS350/01 for the perimeter of the stretch ceilings and used the BS350/16 separator profile to join the ceilings together. We started by fixing these aluminium tracks with suitable bracing to the clients existing ceiling structure.

Next we installed 400m2 of Barrisol A15 Nanoperf Acoustic in the Blanc Extramat 01050 finish, along with PVC reinforcing rings so that the client could pass suspension rods through the ceiling, for the ventilation air socks.

Meadowhall Shopping Centre Bespoke Lighting Installation

Bespoke Retail Lighting

The Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield is currently undergoing a £60m makeover. Due for completion at the end of 2017, the refurbishment of the existing shopping centre aims to create a retail space which offers a more vibrant shopping experience through the use of natural and bespoke interior light.

Barrisol Welch was asked to design and install bespoke Barrisol Lighting features throughout the shopping centre, to help create a brighter and more open environment in line with The Future of Meadowhall vision.

The project brief required the design and installation of 70 Barrisol ceiling lights into the existing shopping centre recesses. Completed over four stages, this included a mixture of circular and rectangular lighting features.

Barrisol Installations

Starting with the circular lighting features, we forged a BS 350/01 aluminium track to suit the radius of the circles, using our specialist in-house machining techniques.

We then installed the all of the pieces of Barrisol track system into the existing ceiling recesses and arranged for the required Barrisol stretch materials to be cut and delivered ready for project completion.

Using Osram LED lighting to illuminate the translucent stretch ceilings provided an even light source across the panels to achieve the bright and open shopping environment required for the project vision.

Barrisol Acoustic Lighting Installation at Diss Corn Hall, Norfolk

After two years of refurbishment work, the Diss Corn Hall in Norfolk has reopened its doors. The Grade II listed, arts venue has undergone a major £1.8m investment, to update the facilities and save it from the risk of serious water damage.

Barrisol Welch was asked to install a bespoke acoustic ceiling system with lighting, to create a bright and open space with improved acoustic properties suitable for performances.

Acoustic Ceilings

Blending in with the buildings original aesthetic features, the Diss Corn Hall required the design and installation of 12 double skin acoustic ceilings with LED strip lighting.

Barrisol Installations

We began by installing two sets of Barrisol BS 350/01 aluminium track into the existing ceiling substructure, with evenly spaced LED strip lights to allow for a uniform distribution of light.

We then installed a series of DALI interface lighting control trays which were linked to the buildings existing DALI control system.

The ceiling system was completed with two layers of Barrisol BlancVenus 04011. The bottom layer of Barrisol had a class B acoustic rating, with 300,000 perforations per square metre, for improved acoustic performance properties.

Barrisol Lighting Installation at Selfridges Flagship Store

Barrisol Lighting Installation

The department store Selfridges has invested £300m into an architectural makeover of its flagship London store. The redevelopment of the iconic Oxford Street site includes a grand new entrance and an increase in retail space of more than 10 percent, to about 580,000 sq ft.

Barrisol Welch was employed to create a series of unique Barrisol lightbox ceiling features to be positioned above the stores’ main escalators.

Barrisol Lightbox

The project required 6, 3D lightboxes with no shadowing from the internal framework and strict stipulations for the LED output to reach specific CRI requirements.

Barrisol Lightbox Manufacturing & Installation

We built 6 clear polycarbonate lightboxes at our UK workshop. We then manufactured 6 aluminium composite lids to hold the CRI 90 LED strip lights, and secured a BS 350/11 aluminium track around the lid, ready for the boxes to be transported to the site.

The Barrisol stretch sheeting was created with 3D welds in the corners so that it could be wrapped around the polycarbonate boxes and fixed into the track at the top of each Barrisol lightbox.

The 6 lightboxes were then installed and the LED control trays connected to the supply already in place.

Selfridges Head Office Commercial Lighting Installation

Commercial Lighting Installation

Selfridges head office and its flagship London department store have recently undergone a £300m renovation.

The major redevelopment project involved transforming the stores existing office into ‘the world’s largest destination for accessories’. New office space was acquired in a neighbouring building which was also treated to an architectural revamp.

Barrisol Lighting

Barrisol Welch is proud to have been involved in the installation of Barrisol lightboxes at the flagship Selfridges store in London, as well as a series of Barrisol lighting features within the newly enhanced office space.

This office based project required LED circular lighting installed throughout the corridors, over four floors.

The lighting solutions we installated

We installed the LED strip lighting into 11 circular recesses that were already positioned throughout the office corridors.

The LED strips were positioned evenly within each recess to ensure a uniform distribution of light. We fixed a BS 350/01 aluminium track around the perimeter of each circle ready to hold the required Barrisol stretch material securely in place.

A double skin was installed in every light feature, with each layer positioned 100mm apart. A clear Nereide top skin was installed to provide a barrier for dust and debris with a white blanc venus bottom skin added to complete the look of each light.

Vauxhall Head Office Creative Illuminated Print Installation

Barrisol Welch Vauxhall Head Office Lighting

Vauxhall Motors is one of the oldest car manufacturers in Britain, with a history dating back more than 100 years. The first car to bear the Vauxhall name was manufactured in 1903 and the company has since gone on to produce some of the UK’s most popular vehicles.

Barrisol Welch was invited to complete a special Barrisol illuminated print installation at the Vauxhall head offices in Luton, Bedfordshire.

Barrisol Creative Lighting

This bespoke Barrisol lighting installation consisted of four Barrisol stretch panels and lighting. Two translucent panels with control lighting for the reception area and stairs and two printed translucent panels for the staff breakout areas.

Barrisol Installations

We used Barrisol Blanc Venus 04011 with BS 350/01 aluminium track for the reception area panels, and installed hybrid (2700k – 6000k) LED lighting that could be dimmed to suit any colour temperature and ensure appropriate lighting levels to the entrance of the building.

For the breakout areas, we again used Barrisol Blanc Venus 04011. This time the panels incorporated sky images from the Barrisol printing range with white LED lighting to provide a bright and vibrant finish.

To accommodate the printed panels and add depth to the Barrisol ceiling, we used a BS 355/15 aluminium track. The additional depth meant we were able to space the LED lighting more suitably to allow for perfectly even lighting across the panels.

The Natural History Museum

Suspended Stretch Ceiling

The Natural History Museum in London is home to a vast range of life and earth science exhibits, including the museum’s world-famous dinosaur skeletons.

As part of the museum’s latest exhibition, Coral Reefs: Secret Cities of the Sea, Barrisol Welch was asked to install a suspended Barrisol stretch ceiling for the projection of multiple images in order to create an underwater experience for visitors.

Barrisol Natural History Museum Ceiling Panel Installation

Completed over two days, we split the raft into 9 panels – 5 ceiling panels and 4 vertical panels positioned at each corner. Each panel was fixed to a lightweight aluminium frame to create one large raft spanning the 300m² exhibition

The large aluminium framework was manufactured in smaller manageable pieces. Each section was braced with an aluminium box frame to strengthen the structure and fitted with a BS 350/11 track. The pieces were then powder coated to the clients specified RAL code.

The bespoke frame was shipped to the museum where we pieced together the structure and positioned the rafts one by one to the required height. Once the frame was in place, we fitted the Barrisol matt using gas heaters.

Stretch Ceiling Specialists

To meet the project brief, the Barrisol Welch team proposed the use of Blanc Douceur 01060 as the optimal finish for this particular application. The whitest in the Barrisol matt range, the colour and finish of the material allows for images and patterns to be projected easily and clearly, bringing a unique ambience to the exhibition.

Barrisol Media Ceiling Installation at Virgin Media, Manchester

Intelligent LED Media Ceiling Installation

Barrisol Welch Virgin Media Ceiling Lighting

Barrisol Welch has completed a bespoke lighting installation, with media programming solution, for the Virgin Media offices in Manchester.

One of Virgin Media’s busiest offices, the site in Wythenshawe has been specially designed as the company’s centre of excellence for training. Our brief was to create a high impact lighting scheme, with a ‘wow’ factor, for a reception area used for welcoming business clients.

Utilising ArtNet (DMX) interfaces, we created a tailored lighting solution to cover the ceiling and walls of the intended project area.

Driven by a media PC, we used the latest lighting software to create vibrant abstract video imagery, with controls for each individual LED emitter, to display across the ceiling and backlit wall of the reception area.

The ArtNet distribution is achieved through installing a proprietary local network which is dedicated to the media PC and ArtNet interfaces. For this particular project we provided ArtNet devices capable of providing 4,000 pixels (0r 12,000 channels) of lighting control.

We also installed a user keypad and control processor to provide further remote access to the lighting software. This enabled the client to easily select scenes and sequences, as well as controlling the intensity of the lighting levels.

Through the chosen software and control solution, we were able to support our client in creating corporate imagery to match their branding and business strategy for current and future events.

On site survey and installation

We started by surveying the project site, taking precise measurements to ensure our technical team were able to accurately calculate the required light resolution.

This was an important step for three reasons:

The measurements dictate the number of pixels and LED strips required for the installation
They tell us the amount of power supplies, control circuits and interfaces required
They are critical for the final impact of the media ceiling

We designed, built and installed a large light box using a Barrisol Mercure skin. Barrisol Mercure is a translucent materials with a light transmission rate of 52% and a reflection rate of 51%.

In order to keep the sheet in pristine condition we fitted an additional skin, using Barrisol Nereide, between the lighting system and the lower Barrisol diffuser. This additional sheeting provided a buffer to avoid dust, insects and other elements from spoiling the aesthetics of the light box.

We finished off the light box installation with intelligent LED lighting, featuring a programmable lighting sequence and daily time lock events.

Continuing the backlit feature into an adjacent wall, we fitted further LED strip lighting and built a frame to house a recessed TV for digital signage. The wall was then covered with a woven Artolis Bi-Face to complete the look.

When the intelligent lighting system is not in use, supplementary lighting within the ceiling area provides general walkway light which can be controlled using daily time lock events.
